WWF's conservation efforts in Bhutan can be traced back to as early as the 1970s when it first began assisting the Royal Government with capacity building support. Since then, WWF Bhutan has been able to branch into other fields fundamental for environment conservation like research & study, education & awareness, human wildlife conflict initiatives, eco-tourism etc.
In an effort to reduce and/or reverse environmental degradation, WWF has also begun working closely with communities in and around protected areas through various educational and participatory initiatives in an effort to raise awareness, as well as promoting sustainable livelihood alternatives like eco-tourism.
Looking ahead, WWF aims to continuously work closely with the government and with local communities to reduce human induced pressures and threats on the environment. WWF will also work towards enhancing capacity & knowledge while building the country’s resilience towards Climate Change impacts.
